Cretan dakos with helea premium EVOO
Dakos (also called "koukouvayia") is a traditional meze or light meal from the island of Crete. Easy to make with few ingredients and no cooking.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
- 2 large round Cretan barley rusks
- 1 large or 2 small ripe tomatoes, coarsely grated (discard skin)
- 2-3 heaping tablespoons of feta cheese
- Helea premium extra virgin olive oil
- Greek oregano
- 5-6 Helea Olives
Moisten the Cretan rusks with a few drops of water. Grate the tomato with a vegetable grater and spread it on the rusk. Season with salt and drizzle with helea premium extra virgin olive oil. Cut the feta into small pieces and spread it over the rusks with the tomato and season with the oregano. Finally add the olive oils.
The traditional Cretan dakos is a perfect snack as it is healthy and prepared in a few minutes. It is suitable for vegetarians and it is a typical Mediterranean diet dish.
